Longevity recipes for detoxification
Ginseng tea (yang)
o One 1-inch piece ginseng
o Two 1/2-inch pieces Chinese licorice root, cut in half
o Four Chinese red dates
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Add ingredients.
Reduce heat, and simmer for 1 hour.
Licorice root tea (yin/yang)
o Four 1/2-inch pieces Chinese licorice root
o Honey to taste
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Add licorice.
Reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes.
Add honey, if desired.
Sweet potato soup (yin)
o Three medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into small pieces
o Honey to taste
Bring sweet potatoes with 3 cups of water to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add honey, if desired.
Longevity Recipes for good eyesight/liver health
Bitter melon and beef in black bean sauce (yin/yang)
o One bitter melon, cut in half lengthwise (½ inch), seed removed
o Four cloves of garlic
o One small onion, sliced
o One pound tenderloin beef, sliced (or any kind of meat, even seafood)
o Three scallions, diced
o One ½ inch ginger, thinly sliced
o Three tablespoons black bean paste
o Two tablespoons dry sherry
o Salt and oil
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
Add bitter melon and heat for 1 minute.
Drain, coat bitter melon with salt. Set aside for 20 minutes.
Rinse with cold water, and drain.
In a wok, stir-fry garlic, ginger, onion, and black bean paste.
Add oil and beef until browned.
Add scallions and bitter melon.
Sprinkle with dry sherry.
Serve over brown rice, if desired.
Longevity Recipes for good digestion
Mint tea (yin)
o 1/2 cup fresh chopped mint leaves
o Honey to taste
Bring 6 cups of water to a boil.
Add mint leaves, cover, turn off the heat, and steep for 5 minutes.
Rice and fennel soup (yin)
o Two fennel bulb, chopped
o One cup of brown rice
Bring 6 cups of water to a boil.
Add ingredients.
Cover pot and reduce heat.
Cook for 40-50 minutes.
Longevity recipes for good sleep
Red date sleepy tea (yang)
o Five to six Chinese red dates, pitted
o Four scallions, white part only
Bring dates with 2 cups of water to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes to 1 cup.
Red date and wheat soup (yin/yang)
o Two teaspoons wheat germ
o Eight Chinese red dates
oT wo 1-inch pieces Chinese licorice root
Toast and brown wheat germ without oil.
Bring wheat germ and red dates with 2-3 cups of water to a boil.
Reduce heat, add licorice, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until it is reduced to half.
